DVD X Copy
Platinum is a program designed to help you back up your retail DVD movie
collection with as much customization as you desire.
When you first
open DVD X Copy Platinum, this is the screen you will see.

Copy the DVD in the
Xpress Interface. This will compress to place just the movie or
the whole disc based on simple options. |
Copy the DVD using
Advanced Options. This allows you to define what to keep, omit,
and where to compress or split. |
Launch DVD X Rescue.
If your disc is not copying correctly, you may wish to try to copy
using Rescue instead. It can handle many discs that Xpress and
Platinum will reject because of damage. |
Adjust the settings.
All the settings for temp location and burning drive are stored here,
as well as more minor preferences. |
These buttons function at any time in the Advanced
preliminary process. For example, if you forget to change settings, you
can jump straight to the settings screen from anywhere the button is
visible. However, your chosen settings for a copy will not be kept if you
leave Advanced mode.
Clicking the Advanced button will lead to this
screen:

Place a check next to
the titlesets desired. Only those titlesets that have checkmarks next
to them will be copied. Hitting the + will show the contents, and
allow previewing. |
This area will show
the size of the currently selected options
If the size of the
disc is larger than 4.36 gigabytes, the Use Compression checkbox will
be enabled. |
This option will
determine if you want to split or compress. |
This button leads to
the current screen. If you change your mind in any of the following
steps, click this button to back up to here. |
This button leads to
the compression screen. This button is only visible if Use
Compression is enabled. |
This button leads to
the splitting screen. This button is only visible if Use Compression
is disabled. Replaces the Compression button in the above diagram. |
Once the options here
are configured the way desired, this button will progress to the next
step. |
| |
Select the portions of the disc you want to keep, and
leave the unwanted unchecked. Decide if compressing or splitting is
preferred, and proceed to the next screen.
If Use Compression on the Select Titles page is
enabled, you will get the following screen:

This area shows the
amount of compression for the titlesets selected. |
This bar shows how
compressed the total disc will be. Can be determined by dividing 4.36
by the DVD size shown on the Select Titles screen. |
This status bar shows
the amount of compression on the currently selected titleset. The
higher the number, the more compressed the titleset will be. |
This lets you tune the
compression on the current titleset. |
Once a titleset is
manipulated, check this to lock it in. If you do not lock the
compression changes you make, those changes will not stay fixed. |
These buttons will
begin the copying process. |
| |
Drag the sliders to try fine-tuning where the
compression will occur, then click the Next button or the Write DVD button
to continue. The disc will be prepared then burned.
If Use Compression on the Select Titles page is disabled, you will get
the following screen:

This area lets you
place the titlesets as you want them to be available on the 2 disc set |
These meters show the
amount of space taken up on each disc. If larger than 4.36 GB, the
number will change to red. |
This area lets the
user determine where the split occurs. Cels are subdivisions of
chapters. Currently, only splitting at the beginning of a chapter is
enabled. |
These buttons will
begin the copying process |
| |
Move the titlesets between the discs using the disk1
and disk2 buttons and highlighting the titlesets one at a time. Keep an
eye on the size gauges at the bottom, making sure that they do not exceed
4.36 gigabytes (the limit on writable DVDs). If you like, you can also
tune the chapter that the main movie will be split at, if this option is
needed. This is the cel position box at the very bottom.
Clicking on the Settings button will lead to the
following screen:

This button will search 321 Live for
TDF files of the current movie in the drive. This feature has not
been instituted as of yet. |
This area shows all the available
burners detected on your system as well as the current burner
selected. |
Shows the location of the temporary
folder. The temporary path can be adjusted by typing a new one or by
using the button to the right of the path. |
Shows the location of your TDF folder.
This folder contains TDFs on every movie you have backed up. If Check
Local TDF Files is enabled, every time a movie is placed in the drive
the program will search this directory to see if there is a TDF for
that movie. |
Shows the location of your DVD info
folder. If you have renamed the movie or any of the titlesets, that
information will be stored here. That information can be accessed if
the movie is ever used again as long as Check Local DVD Info Files is
enabled. |
Forces the DVD to identify itself as a
DVD-ROM, thereby making it usable in any DVD player. This function
only works with certain DVD burners. |
Saves the settings for future uses of
the software. |
| |
The different states during the Reading and Writing
processes
This is the state that is first seen when reading
and preparing the DVD. |
This is the state when the reading is complete,
and the software is waiting for you to insert a blank disc. |
A blank disc has been detected, and the software
is ready to burn. Click start. |
The start has been pressed, and the program is
preparing a blank DVD disc for the writing process. |
Writing is now in process. If you cancel this
step on recordable (not rewritable) media, the disc is now a coaster. |
